Taking Candid Photographs of Smoking Women – Part 1

January 23, 2011

in Contemplation

Watching a girl smoke a cigarette makes my heart race.

Every smoker is different and every drag a delight to watch. Naturally when I’m enjoying the sight of a beautiful girl smoking I started wanting to take photos of them.

The year was 2003 when I first time I tried taking photographs of smokers.

I was 17 and was visiting universities on their open days during the summer and autumn. It was one of the first times I had an opportunity to travel alone and brought along a disposable film camera. I was going to photograph smokers! I was excited and nervous.
I didn’t have the ideal equipment though. The camera would make a loud ‘click’ when taking a picture and I was really nervous I would be caught by my first ‘subjects’.
I made some attempts but was unsure of myself, especially about how I was going to get the shots processed. As I was shooting on film I then had to take the camera to a photography shop to get the pictures developed.
I was incredibly nervous and worried the staff at the shop would identify me as the guy with the photos of women smokers. As I picked up the pictures the guy serving me gave me a slight smile and after paying I hurriedly existed the shop.
I needn’t have worried too much -the shots were badly framed and poorly exposed.

This wasn’t going to work.
I gave up as autumn turned to winter and shortly afterwards, in February 2004,  I started this blog, Smoking Women are Sexy in. By April I had bought myself my first mobile phone and it had a built in *digital* camera.  No more loud clicking; no more having to have my photos developed in photography shops.
My candid photography hobby had begun.

Some of my first candid photos of smoking women from 2004:

I’d say you’ve done well. Have been tempted to take candid pics, but the opportunity is fleeting and my camera stinks. Pic 2 is my fav but the cheek hollow pic sure shows that the lady needs a hit bad!

Being bathed in the cigarette smoke coming from the girl sitting next to you is amazing. I’ve not had this much since the smoking ban came to the UK in 2007. But there was a time when I sat in a car with a girl as she took a smoke break. It was amazing and I had to cover my groin with my arms.

There was a girl at work who would go out to her car to smoke. I so wanted to be in that car with her! It would have been heaven.

You know what, it IS heaven -that’s actually happened to me at work once. A girl was going out for a cigarette and asked if anyone wanted to join her. I said I’ll come out even though I don’t smoke. It was raining so she said “let’s go to my car” -and I got to sit in her car with her as she smoked!!!!

Insane. I even have pictures! But I’m saving them for my premium product, the Candid Vault product that I’m preparing :) Tempted?

She was really dragging deeply on that cigarette. Which I LOVE. :)

Your photographic skill and nerve have made the world a better place, Sir!

Thanks Felix. It’s just such a beautiful sight and it’s wonderful having the reminder for years to come. Do you really think it takes lots of nerve?

Well, you were nervous and did it anyway. Kudos to you! :) Personally, I’d be uncomfortable with the idea of taking shots like these. But then, I’m also old enough now that the “creepy old guy” factor might apply if I got caught at it!

I guess I’ll take advantage of my youth and good lucks while I still have them. That said, it doesn’t stop RD :)

Unless I have a cover…like talking on a phone or using an iPAD.

I find just holding a phone in one hand and a camera in the other works fine. I used to actually talk into the phone but I just got distracted by the gorgeous sight of the smoker and ran out of things to say.
Pretending to send text messages works best for me.

It’s fascinating reading the comments of people with the same fascination for female smokers as myself…

Flamingo, your comments about going for a smoke break with a girl remind me of why I took up smoking myself. In later years, when I worked for a large company and there’d always be plenty of women taking smoke breaks, I found it useful to befriend some who worked close to me, then go for smoke breaks with them. They then become “smoking buddies” and it becomes a regular occurrence. The odd thing about my fetish is, I find that when the object of my obsession becomes a friend, afterwards I don’t even *notice* her smoking, but I do notice others in the vicinity. I wonder I’m alone in this, or if this aspect of my fetish is shared by any?

Are you shy of girls (in general) by any chance? I was, and eventually grew out of it. Judging by your writing style and obvious intellect, you needn’t be.

You should get over the shyness hurdle, become friends with female smokers, and you might find sooner or later that you have a beautiful girlfriend/wife who happens to be a smoker. Also, in a relationship, a woman who is your romantic partner and who (obviously) cares about you will probably be quite accomodating about your fetish if you open up to her about it, although it will seem odd to her at first. Hell… everyone has their own little fetish/perversion/obsession. It’s nothing to be self-conscious about. Then it can take on a whole different context, and become something she does to please you during sex. At least, that’s what happened to me (and many many others, I’m sure), with a couple of different girls. Just my 2 cents.
